R. Bruce Williams, MD, FCAP, has been inaugurated as the 35th president in a ceremony at the College of American Pathologists' (CAP) annual meeting near Washington, DC. Dr. Williams has been a CAP member for 40 years, holding leadership roles in the organization for the last 25 years. He has served on the Board of Governors since 2009 and, most recently, as its president-elect since 2015.

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation has earned a coveted 2017 Power of A Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for the pathologist-led See, Test, Treat® program, a free cervical and breast cancer screening and health education program for at-risk women and their families. In addition, The CAP's Pathology and Laboratory Quality Center has been awarded a 2017 Power of A Gold Award for establishing rigorous laboratory guidelines to improve patient outcomes.

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) opened the Pathologists Quality Registry at CAP17, the CAP’s annual meeting, for pathologists to enroll and use the registry for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) reporting. Developed by pathologists for pathologists, the Pathologists Quality Registry offers pathology-specific quality measures and attestation for improvement activities to help pathologists demonstrate quality care, while maximizing Medicare payment bonus potential.

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) released on August 21, 2017, the 2017 edition of its Laboratory Accreditation Program checklists. The checklists contain approximately 3,000 requirements that are used during laboratory accreditation inspections to help laboratories stay in compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.
