2017 CAP Excellence in Teaching Award

Established in 2009, the CAP Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes consistently outstanding contributions as faculty for one or more education activities resulting in exceptional professional development opportunities for pathologists.

Timothy William Jacobs, MD, FCAP

The College of American Pathologists honors Timothy William Jacobs, MD, FCAP, with the 2017 CAP Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of his expertise and significant contributions in developing and presenting breast pathology education to CAP members.

Dr. Jacobs is a recognized breast pathology expert and tenured faculty of the CAP’s annual meeting where he has shared his expertise to impact the knowledge and skills of more than 1,400 attendees at 7 of the past 14 annual meetings. His passion and excitement for teaching are reflected in the consistently high ratings he has achieved for overall course value and for faculty effectiveness. Dr. Jacobs is skilled at teaching concepts using different delivery modalities and effectively using audio-visuals in a simple, yet effective way to communicate/demonstrate breast pathology cases.

The CAP also recognizes Dr. Jacobs for his past development of annual meeting self-assessment modules (SAMs) and for his significant contributions in developing and presenting the CAP inspector training and laboratory management education.


Dr. Jacobs is a staff pathologist at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
